BG Global owns 50% of the issued share capital of Cratos Institutional (Pty) Limited.
Cratos Institutional was founded in 2014 as an institutional Stock Broking and Derivatives trading firm and broker member of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, (JSE)
Cratos Institutional offered trade execution and equity research services to Asset Managers, Hedge Funds and Pension Funds with a combined assets under management of more than R3 trillion .
This service offering was achieved through a dedicated team of Institutional equity traders and research analysts coupled with use of state of the art technology. The research team was on the fore front of an innovative ESG (Environmental Social and Governance) scoring model that was instrumental in assisting portfolio managers in their sustainable investment decision making processes.
Pursuant to the development of the model, Cratos Institutional then took special interest in the carbon emissions space and the global commitment to net zero by 2050, which meant countries and corporates would have to offset emissions through use of carbon credits created from carbon removal and avoidance projects and positioned itself in two areas :

CARBON PROJECT FINANCING
Carbon streaming is the provision of financing for development of carbon projects in exchange for a stream of future cashflows from the project which is called a “stream” . A carbon credit stream is a contractual agreement whereby Cratos Institutional, as the stream purchaser, makes an upfront deposit (in the form of cash, shares or other consideration) to a project partner, in return for the right to purchase all or a portion of the future carbon credits generated by a project or an asset over the term of the agreement. The project partner may use the upfront deposit to fund the development, expansion or operation of a project or for general corporate purposes. Cratos Institutional then receives the carbon credits from the project partner and typically pays an ongoing delivery payment, or purchase price per carbon credit, to the project partner when the carbon credits are sold. A portion of the purchase price flows back to the project and the local communities.
